Anna Maria Reverté, the carillon player for the Palau de la Generalitat, will be performing a concert in homage to Mozart on the first day of the year, with seven pieces by the Austrian composer. The concert is free of charge and although there is a limited audience capacity at the Pati dels Tarongers and the Galeria Gòtica (where a closed-circuit TV connection allows the audience to see they keyboard), the melodies performed can be heard from many streets in the Gothic quarter.
The carillon is an instrument with large dimensions. It consists of 49 copper bells weighing nearly 5 tonnes in total. They are rung using a complex mechanism and played manually using a keyboard and pedals.
